Our Story
The Beaverton Resource Center began with a shared vision to ensure that no neighbor would have to navigate difficult times alone. After more than 20 years working in homelessness prevention services with the Beaverton School District, Lisa Mentesana recognized a growing need for a central place where individuals and families could access essential community resources.
In 2019, Lisa partnered with Al Schmitt, a retiree who was managing the Holy Trinity Food Pantry, to bridge gaps in services and create a more connected network of support. Together, they launched the Beaverton Resource Center in 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since opening its doors, BRC has helped thousands of individuals and families find assistance, resources, and hope.
From the beginning, both founders put the community first. Lisa served as an unpaid Executive Director, while Al contributed his time and worked as part-time technical support. Their commitment to keeping administrative costs low allowed BRC to prioritize hiring and paying the staff who serve our community.
What began as a shared vision has grown into a network of community partners, dedicated staff, and volunteers working together to build a stronger Beaverton together.

With Gratitude to Our Community
What began as a vision shared by two individuals has become something far greater, thanks to the generosity and dedication of our community. We are deeply grateful to our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who have helped bring this vision to life. Your time, compassion, and commitment have made it possible for us to serve thousands of neighbors and continue building a place where everyone can find help, hope, and connection.
Together, we're building a stronger Beaverton.
